The South West area of England is rich in monuments built by men before they started writing – it is the period of “pre-history”.
Not having left written explanations on the meaning and use of these monuments, we can only look for answers with the help of science and our imagination. Was Stonehenge a great calendar to follow the movements of the sun, a burial site for tribal nobles or a meeting place and party for the peoples? Was Silbury Hill a religious site or a protective fort? Did the White Horse of Uffington denote the belonging of the area to a certain tribe or was it a sign of homage to the sun god?
The great fortresses of the Iron Age are less mysterious. We can still see the great defenses dug in the earth to offer protection to people and animals and we still see the openings where once there were large wooden gates.
With this visit you will be transported back through the centuries and you will feel the magic of these places and monuments, the same that they have been transmitting for thousands of years.
